 a life beyond transition -- home about me trans stuff faith -- tech -- photos -- articles journal contact welcome to ! hi, and welcome to my modest home on the web. my intention in writing this site is to provide a place for me to document parts of my life and experiences. although to a large extent i'm doing this for my own benefit (i rather enjoy writing), i also hope that sharing my experiences and feelings will help and entertain others. a little about me describing who we are is a difficult thing to do at the best of times. before i really start waffling i'll tell you a little bit about myself. to start with, i'm trans - although i was born (externally anyway) physically male, my mind has always been female. it took me years to come to terms with this, and when i did it tore my family apart - but also started me on the most amazing and fulfilling journey of my life. it's interesting the effect that this admission can have on people. most will express sympathy, say you're "brave" (whatever that means) or possibly be bemused or confused as to why anyone would want to go through the upheaval, risk and cost that's part of my everyday life. a very small (a getting smaller each year) minority will be openly hostile - but i'm glad to say that i haven't experienced that directly to any great extent. regardless, i hope that i can help you understand trans people like me. there are far, far more of us than you think, and at the end of the day we're just ordinary people! . the way i am was caused by a birth defect (i just thought i was weird until i discovered that), the medical name for which is gender dysphoria . it's a truly horrible condition which is all too often made far worse by society's perceived lack of understanding and prejudice. even today, many trans people attempt (and all too often) succeed at suicide, or are victims of transphobic violence. i'm one of the lucky ones. i won't dwell further on that side of my life except to say thank you to all the friends who've supported me over the last few difficult years. you know who you are, and i know i couldn't have made it this far without you. enough about gender stuff for now. welcome! about this site i originally created this site to document the journey i was undertaking, and help others on the same path. i've always intended that as my life moved on after transition and surgery its focus would change to encompass the rest of the my life. nevertheless, the trans support information will always be there for others who need it or want to learn. a few of the pages you might want to check out are: about me - a brief summary of who i am, what i like and so on trans stuff - trans support information, including details of my own transition and surgery. photos - a little window into my life, in pictorial form.   -- tears and laughter is my online journal. if you want to know what's happening in my life right now, this is the place to look. i not only try to write from the heart, but also to make it interesting and entertaining. take care and god bless, © 2002-2018 anna-jayne metcalfe. all rights reserved. design by nodethirtythree design
